The MG5 from MagBot is a magnetic gripper designed for the automated handling of ferromagnetic workpieces. It grips components directly via its magnetic poles and is therefore suitable for pick-and-place and transfer processes without the need for a separate vacuum system.

The switchable magnet technology requires electrical power only during gripping and releasing. When holding a workpiece, the permanent magnet structure generates the holding force without a continuous power supply and retains the workpiece even in the event of a power cut. To achieve the specified load capacity, the entire N/S pole surface must be in contact with the workpiece, as air gaps reduce the achievable holding force. An optional cylinder sensor can be used to monitor the switching status.

The MG5 is designed for a load capacity of 5 kgf or 49 N and achieves a repeatability of ±0.05 mm. The gripper measures Ø 54 × 38 mm and weighs 416 g. Gripping and releasing each take approximately 200 ms with a power supply of 24 V and 2 A. The permissible temperature range is from −10 to 60 °C at 0 to 80 per cent relative humidity, non-condensing. The protection rating is IP45 and is optionally available as IP56.
