The MG30 from MagBot is a magnetic gripper for automated pick-and-place and transfer processes involving ferromagnetic workpieces. It picks up components directly via its magnetic poles and does not require a separate vacuum system to do so.

The switchable magnet technology requires electrical power only during gripping and releasing. When holding a workpiece, the permanent magnet structure generates the required holding force without a continuous power supply and retains the workpiece even in the event of a power cut. To achieve the specified load capacity, the entire N/S pole surface must be in contact with the workpiece. Air gaps between the gripper and the workpiece reduce the achievable holding force. A cylinder sensor is available as an option for monitoring the switching status.

The MG30 offers a load capacity of 30 kgf or 294 N and a repeatability of ±0.05 mm. The gripper measures Ø 118 × 67.5 mm and weighs 3,532 g. Gripping and releasing each take approximately 400 ms with a power supply of 24 V and 5 A. The permissible temperature range is from −10 to 60 °C at 0 to 80 per cent relative humidity, non-condensing. The protection rating is IP45 and is optionally available as IP56. In conjunction with the TCV4 tool changer, the MG30 can be integrated as a magnetic gripper into an automated tool changing system.
