The MG16 from MagBot is a magnetic gripper for automated pick-and-place and transfer processes involving ferromagnetic workpieces. The magnetic poles grip the component directly, meaning that no separate vacuum system is required.

The switchable magnet technology only requires electrical power during gripping and releasing. During transport, the permanent magnet structure holds the workpiece without a continuous power supply and maintains the holding force even in the event of a power cut. The N/S pole surface must be in full contact with the workpiece, as air gaps reduce the possible load capacity. An optional cylinder sensor can monitor the switching status.

The MG16 offers a load capacity of 16 kgf or 157 N and a repeatability of ±0.05 mm. The gripper measures Ø 74 × 49.5 mm and weighs 1,057 g. Gripping and releasing each take approximately 300 ms with a 24 V, 2 A power supply. The operating range is between −10 and 60 °C at 0 to 80 per cent relative humidity, non-condensing. The protection rating is IP45 and is optionally available as IP56. In conjunction with the TCV2 tool changer, the MG16 can be used both as a magnetic gripper and within an automated tool-changing system.
