The mDPG-C5 from MagBot is a stand-alone electric vacuum generator for the construction of robotic suction grippers. An integrated DC vacuum pump generates the required vacuum using a 24 V power supply. As a result, the system requires no external air compressor, no central compressed air supply and no complex pneumatic circuitry. It can be controlled via the digital inputs and outputs of a robot or a PLC.

The mDPG-C5 achieves a maximum vacuum of −75 kPa and a maximum flow rate of 4.8 l/min. The outer diameter of the connection can be adjusted between 6 and 10 mm. The electrical specification is 24 V at 0.4 A. A red LED indicates the operating status.

The possible load capacity depends on the number, material and diameter of the connected suction cups, as well as on the surface of the workpiece. Porous or uneven surfaces can cause air leaks and reduce the holding force. The suction cup configuration and an adequate safety factor should therefore be selected to suit the application.

The unit measures 134.5 × 112 × 68.5 mm and weighs 620 g. The specified temperature range is from −20 to 60 °C at 0 to 80 per cent relative humidity, non-condensing. In the event of a power failure, the vacuum may be released immediately. For applications where there is a risk of falling, a non-return valve, an emergency power supply or other suitable safety measures should therefore be provided.
