Complex tasks and sensitive parts: Modern robots can handle it
Electrical engineering is characterised by rapid, continuous change and ever increasing complexity. The quantity and variation of components, often installed in a confined space, requires a high degree of precision that is difficult to achieve with human labor. Furthermore, the parts can be very sensitive and must be handled with care. This – combined with increasing competition – places high demands on manufacturers.
Automation of production processes with robots can help because they can operate with high precision and achieve a constant output, which reduces the amount of waste. In the long run, this also reduces costs, which can be passed on to customers. Almost every production process can be automated and thus optimised.
For this reason, electrical engineering is probably the second strongest industry when it comes to the number of robots installed: in 2019, 672,000 robots were in use. However, the number of new installations has declined in recent years. In 2017, 122,000 new robots were installed, in 2019 only 88,000. Nevertheless, this increase alone is more than the total number in other industries and therefore still impressive.
